Food Intolerance

Unlike a food allergy, symptoms of food intolerance build up over time. Allergies are usually defined by break outs of itchy skin with rashes or welts, itchy, watery or red eyes, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and in extreme cases swelling of the airways.

Symptoms of food intolerance however can be any or a range of the following:

  • Constipation and bloating
  • Diarrhoea and IBS type symptoms
  • Headaches
  • Eczema or dermatitis
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia and sleep disturbances
  • Water retention
  • Fluctuating weight
  • Bronchitis
  • Anxiety

Many people with food intolerance find it difficult to pin point what foods they are intolerant to as symptoms are so varied and may not always appear directly after eating certain foods.
At Sowelu Wellness, we use the most accurate blood test available to test for Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody reactions to 96 commonly eaten foods. This test is simple, safe and above all, accurate.
Following the results from your testing we will determine a diet that is specifically suited to you and the needs of your body. Eliminating the foods that cause irritation and replacing them with foods that will heal and nourish your body.

This allows the body time to heal, from here you may also be prescribed nutritional and herbal supplements to support this healing process. Depending on your level of intolerance you may find you are able to safely indulge, occasionally, in the foods you are intolerant to once the gut has had sufficient time to heal and digestion is strengthened.

From time to time we need to look a little deeper into the health of your gut, utilising other tests such as stool analysis. This allows us to see what bacteria (good and bad) is present in your gut and in what amounts. From here we can treat and heal specific to your needs.
